Information on access to USG legal counsel for advisement - The attorneys for the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) hold a legal clinic on a biweekly (every 2 weeks) basis, which SBU undergraduate students can attend to solicit free basic legal advisement. The USG is located in room 202 of the Student Activities Center (SAC). Contact 631-632-6460 for details and schedule information for the clinic.

a legal clinic every other week. Graduate students can schedule an appointment by emailing sbgrad.legalclinic@gmail.com or contacting the GSO office at 632-6492 during business hours.

+ How early should I start looking for a residence for the fall semester?
For fall we recommend beginning your search in the beginning of June, however, we add new listings daily so continue your search throughout the remainder of the summer. If you need assistance you may call us at (631) 632-6770 or stop in our office in the student union Room 250.
+ How often is the website updated?
New listings are added to the website daily. Every listing we receive in the office gets posted to the web immediately.
+ Can my financial aid cover my off campus housing? How?
Yes, your financial aid may be able to cover your off campus housing costs. The amount of your tuition is automatically deducted from your aid/loans and the remainder is disbursed to you in the form of a refund check. This money is used at your discretion and it is your responsibility to allocate monies as you see fit.
+ When are most students looking for off campus housing?
The busiest time for rentals is prior to the fall semester, usually during July and August. We also get another smaller rush over winter break, during the month of December.
+ How much does it cost to place an add and how long does it last?
The cost of placing a rental listing on the website is $40 and the listing will remain on the website for 60 days (as of July 1, 2007).
+ What are my payment options?
As of September 18, 2007 we no longer accept checks as payment. Only Money Orders and Credit Cards. You may choose to come into the office (Student Union, Room 250) to pay by money order, cash or credit card. You may also mail us a money order or give us your credit card information over the phone (631) 632-6770. If you choose to pay with a money order your listing will not be posted until the payment is received.
+ Can I request graduate students or faculty?
Requesting graduate students and/or faculty is considered discrimination and is not permitted on our website. You may, however, request someone who is mature and responsible.
+ What if my ad is not receiving any calls?
You are permitted to lower the rental amount or add additional notes to make the listing more attractive to callers.
+ Who has access to your website?
The general public, including faculty, staff, and students all have access to our website.
+ What do I do when my listing is rented?
When your unit is rented please call us with your listing number so that we can remove your ad from the website. Any time remaining on your ad can not be transferred to another listing.
+ What's the importance of my listing number?
Your listing number helps the staff service you more efficiently. Your listing number is used when you want to make changes to your ad, remove your ad, or if you want to renew your ad.
